Background
Since 1991, the Indian economy has progressively liberalized and integrated with the global economy. Recognizing the growth of the manufacturing sector as a key focus area, the Government of India identified a need for a critical mass of visionary leaders to guide the sector into a new era of excellence. Consequently, VLMP was developed by the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, IITs, 91心頭利s, and CII as a flagship program under the Indo-Japan Cooperation Agreement, signed in December 2006. The Government of Japan has also extended cooperation to facilitate the transfer of Japanese expertise and encourage visits to manufacturing centers of excellence in Japan, adding a global perspective to the program.
Since 2007, the program has successfully crafted an array of visionary leaders who have made significant contributions to the industry, upholding the core principles of the VLM community.
